So last week the DVD season sets for Power Rangers MegaForce and Super MegaForce released, and even though those seasons kinda suck, i still felt compelled to buy them for the sake of my collection of every season. So then after getting them in the mail on Tuesday, i basically spent the last five days marathoning through all 40 episodes, finishing earlier today. Basically, it's even worse then when i was watching it week to week on tv a few years back. Honestly, the first half is actually probably the best part. It still has horrible pacing problems and several plot holes, but it feels most like a typical Power Rangers story. But then the second half there is practically no story and almost all just action scenes strung together with the most minimalistic of narratives. One of the biggest flaws was that they never explain anything. I remember when it was still airing, there were a ton of fan-theories about various things (usually regarding continuity with previous seasons) floating around online. Now i realize that fan-theories are pretty much a necessity for this season since it's not like the show gives us any explanation for this shit. Ugh. This season is just bad.

One positive i will give it, though, is something that i was consciously noting as i watched. Regarding the long debates among fans over which was worse, this or Overdrive, i still say Overdrive was worse. In this one review of that season, there was a very excellent montage of past rangers boldly standing up to the villains, even though they didn't always necessarily have their powers at the moment. As i was watching Megaforce, i consciously noted several moments that would've fit right in in that montage. So basically, i think that Overdrive is still worse than Megaforce because at least the Megaforce Rangers are still somewhat likable and still act like rangers.

Finally, i gotta talk about the presentation of these season sets. With the Samurai season set, they clearly just re-used the original individual disc releases, but they still took the effort to slap some new disc labels on them and pretend like it was a new release. Here they didn't even do that. And aside from the final Legendary Battle disc, there weren't shit for special features. It's the ultimate in lazy. But then, that seems to be the overall theme for Megaforce.

So now that i've got this all done, i went back and updated a ranking list that i made over on this other website where i usually talk with other fans of the franchise. Basically, my new ranking is this:

  1. In Space
  2. Jungle Fury
  3. Time Force
  4. Dino Thunder
  5. Mighty Morphin' s3
  6. Mighty Morphin' s2
  7. Mighty Morphin' s1
  8. SPD
  9. Wild Force
  10. Lightspeed Rescue
  11. Samurai/Super Samurai
  12. Zeo
  13. Mystic Force
  14. Turbo
  15. RPM
  16. Lost Galaxy
  17. Ninja Storm
  18. MegaForce/Super MegaForce
  19. Operation Overdrive

I was down in Milwaukee today, where i stopped by a Barnes & Nobel and found this:

It features information from not only both movies, but also the 2009 video game, further cementing that game's cannonicity as Ghostbusters 3 in my mind.

EDIT: Upon further reading, it appears the book also contains information on creatures from the Ghostbusters cartoons. Interesting.

I'm not sure what's up with that label. It could be a reproduction cart, or it could just be some shit an old rental company threw on there. I just got home, and i haven't tested it out yet.

That thing's begging to be opened up so you can check the board and see if it's legit or some bootleg.

What, you don't have a 3.8mm gamebit? What kind of person are you? :O

Yeah, but we don't know how to open shit like that without fucking it up. :3

Ey Morgie, mail that shit to Torgo so he can tell you it's fake. ^_^

Lol, but rly, the label prolly just fell off cuz the previous owner(s) sucked ass and then brought it about themselves to create their own label so they can tell wtf it is.

I know this is probably mostly joking, but it's literally just a board with some holes for the screws. Actually, maybe not even that. On the SNES it might literally just sit there, held in place by the plastic case. Either way, it's basically impossible to fuck it up unless you decide to take a bite out of it halfway through.

This.

Unless you rub your body with a cat and then fondle the board inside while insuring that the path to ground goes through the board, it's very hard to destroy these old carts. But it's a moot point anyway, since we know Morgil won't open it up.

Yeah, even if you guys gave me a step-by-step guide on how not to fuck up, i'm still too lazy to actually do it.

Anyway, i was gonna try the game out right away yesterday, but the AV switchbox that connects all my older systerms to my tv wasn't working. I couldn't get it to switch inputs, and i ultimately concluded that the battery in the remote was dead. I couldn't find any buttons on the switchbox itself to manually change it either. So today i had to run to a store and buy another battery for that remote, and now it works fine. Anyway, so the game itself plays fine. I also tried using that joystick that came with it. It felt awkward as fuck, but i was able to get past the first boss using it. I think i'm gonna stick to using traditional gamepads in the future, though.
