As probably obvious, the "NEW" 3DS version of Minecraft will not get the Better Together update.  It's on track to get multiplayer support though (not sure if local only or if it'll be full multiplayer with both local and online).

If you're curious on how this looks on "NEW" 3DS, IGN did a video:

Here's more news:

Stereoscopic 3D will be added to the "NEW" 3DS version of Minecraft along with local multiplayer.  No word if online play will be possible.

For the PC / Xbox One / Switch players, here is some of what else is new coming with the Better Together update:

The update is still in beta and should roll out later this year when beta testing is complete.

Another day, more information! -> https://gonintendo.c...ze-features-inc

The following is for "NEW" 3DS Edition:

>> The maximum world size you can have on "NEW" 3DS is 2016x2016 blocks.  To compare, small worlds on Switch are 900x900 with the largest 3000x3000.

>> "NEW" 3DS Edition is based on Pocket Edition version 0.15.4.  "NEW" 3DS version has everything Pocket Edition had at that point.

>> However "NEW" 3DS does not have The End.  It has the Nether though.
>> Redstone machines will work as expected.

>> "NEW" 3DS will have update support planned for the next 6-8 months from launch.
>> Updates including updating "NEW" 3DS to Pocket Edition 0.16 version which will enable addition of ocean monuments and relevant blocks for 'em.
>> "NEW" 3DS Edition will not allow cross-play (Better Together update) or world sharing.
>> Local multiplayer only along with stereoscopic 3D support are coming.  Stereoscopic 3D support is 99% complete.
>> You can "mouselook" with the right C-Stick on "NEW" 3DS if you want.

>> There will be options for disabling view bobbing and enabling/disabling auto-jump.
>> The map will always be shown on the bottom screen .
>> "NEW" 3DS Edition only has standard, plastic, and city texture packs, but do include plenty of character skins.  No word if it's possible for more texture packs to get added to "NEW" 3DS Edition.

Mojang has announced more details about the Better Together update.  The full release is targeted for this October on Switch.  However this update will restrict the Super Mario Mash-Up pack on Switch.  You will only be able to use the mash-up pack in single player and split-screen local multiplayer (2 to 4 players).  You will not be able to use that pack online (including in Realms) or in Local Play (2 to 8 players).

Wii U is not getting the Better Together update, so they are exempt from this restriction as all who Wii U players can play with is other Wii U players.

In a surprise, Microsoft will allow Halo skins to be used in the Better Together update which means Nintendo Switch players can play as Master Chief in Minecraft!

Also an update on the release timing for the Better Together update:  Xbox One players should be getting the update by now, mobile/PC Minecraft players should get it sometime today, and Switch players should get it later this year (my last post has the update coming in October).

EDIT - New trailer:

A fan project in recreating the iconic location from Laputa: Castle in the Sky in Minecraft has finally wrapped up.  Production started in 2013.  Castle in the Sky isn't one of my favorite Ghibli movies, but it's still neat when fans come together to pay tribute to something.

When asked about the possibility of other mini-games coming to the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft, the Minecraft team says the coming "Bedrock" edition of Minecraft doesn't have mini-game support right now, so it makes sense to not trying porting other mini-games to Minecraft's Nintendo Switch version at this time.

The "NEW" 3DS Edition of Minecraft will be hitting retailers on November 10th.  At least that's what NoA posted before they deleted the tweet.

Somebody call me when they get the Switch version to retailers.

In today's console updates, the mini-game modes were the only things touched (we get a new character skin pack though as consolation):

You can view the Wii U and Switch changelogs at the link above.

The new character skins are from Stranger Things:  https://gonintendo.c...e-for-minecraft
