This is a good thing. ;) Makes races go by faster. Less people waiting forever.

The way i see it, one person (usually plant doing his stupid reverse plant-girl shit) will finish way ahead of everyone else, causing like half of us back in the 5-8th range to keep getting booted.

30 seconds is a pretty long time, considering at 150cc, most races of 3 laps take somewhere between 3 and 3.5 minutes. You'll have to be back by over half a lap for it to really affect you I would think. Not that it can't happen ... we sometimes get someone waaaaay out in front, but at least if it's Plant he'll screw around at the finish line doing donuts until someone else catches up. :)

I wonder what it's set at now - currently, people will be timed out if they take too long (I seem to remember it happening to J9 on the Wii U version), but I don't know if it was the time from whence the last player crossed the finish line, or if it was timed from when the first place person did.

I guess we'll see how it feels tonight!

Edit:

I just read a different translation (apparently) on Kotaku, and for this it says:

Online matches now end as intended 30 seconds after the first place racer finishes.

Note the "as intended" part. This sounds like a fix for something that wasn't happening all the time, kind of like how sometimes when one player is severely lagged, your item box spins forever (which was also fixed). So I suspect that the net change for our tournaments at least will be 0. The game's just going to always play like it usually did for us anyway.

Wii U's Mario Kart 8 will be receiving online maintenance from 7 PM Central through 10 PM Central.  All Wii U Mario Kart 8 services offered online will be down during this time.  Deluxe players on Switch should not be seeing any maintenance tonight.

Mario Kart 8 DX has now been updated to version 1.2.1.  It fixes an online tournament issue that could prolong load times for returning to the lobby from a race held just after the start and near the very end of scheduled tournament times.
