Want to participate in the official Chozo Sanctuary Mario Kart 8 thread, but don't know all the details? Look no further! Well, look a little further, like at the image below:

TournamentInfoScreen.png

Remember, the times are Central, so offset for your respective timezone as appropriate.

1/2017 update: As noted in the above graphic, the tournament code is now a pinned message in the Mario Kart text chat on our Discord server.

I'll be trying to post the result here after every tournament that people participate in, and we can use this as the place to find out who's going to make it for the tournament, post videos, and have general chatter about the racing.

We also have non-Nintendo voice chat via the Discord client (available for iOS, Android, OS X, Windows, and probably Linux). Check out the voice chat thread for all the info.

Updated 5/22/2017: Special Birthday Tournament "Rules"

Birthday tournaments happen  during the week of a regular racer's birthday (unless scheduling for the birthday person requires it to be pushed back), during which all people racing are encouraged to race as the birthday person's Mii. To be eligible for a birthday tournament, a person needs to have participated in at least 3 tournaments, and actually want there to be a tournament for their birthday in which everyone uses their Mii.

Miis should be set to have copying turned on if you want to give people the opportunity to make changes and rename the Mii. If copying is turned off, everyone will have the same name as the original person, and look the same. It is, of course, optional to allow people to change your Mii, but keep that in mind if you want people to be able to change things (including the name).

The birthday person will have two birthday wishes that can be made! Those are chosen from the following (defaults if no choice made are shown in bold - speed is the only one likely to change, if we decide that 200cc is our "standard" speed at some time):

One of the following:

  • A set of 4 races that must always be chosen, if available (2 if playing in Battle Mode on Deluxe).
  • A set of 4 races that must never be chosen, if they come up (2 if playing in Battle Mode on Deluxe).
  • Everyone must choose Random for every race.

One of the following:

  • What speed/mode we race in
    • 150cc
    • Mirror
    • 200cc
  • What items are enabled
    • All
    • Shells Only
    • Bananas Only
    • Mushrooms Only
    • Frantic Mode
  • What vehicles can be used
    • All
    • Karts Only
    • Bikes Only
  • Control method
    • All
    • Tilt Controls Only
  • COM difficulty
    • Easy
    • Normal
    • Hard

The birthday person may wave one or both of these wishes if they just want to have a standard tournament.

Other themes/suggestions might be in place depending on the person whose birthday it is (like racing on Gold karts for a golden birthday), but the birthday person will always get to choose two of the listed parameters.

I've purposefully not specified 50cc or 100cc as a race speed, since those are so slow, and also removed the option to have No Items because I'm of the firm belief that Mario Kart is not meant to be a "purely driving skill" game. Battle is currently only available in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a choice, because we all know that Battle Mode in MK 8 Wii U sucks.

I know we've been through this before, but does it have to be 150cc?

Hey Plant, isn't my Princess Peach outfit divine? Thanks for being so nice and pulling over to the side so I could zip past you and not get clipped by the blue shell explosion!

Tonight's race rankings will be up once mariokart.tv gets updated, which might not be before I drag my still sick ass to bed. In the meantime, good to race with everyone! It was much more fun once we got 6 real people in there. :D

And here's the official rankings from last night's race. Since MK doesn't save the position of "guest" racers, I had to edit this a bit to get my wife in there. :D

Poor Plant keeps on showing up late because of moonlighting as slave labor for his family. But it was nice to not see as much smart TV interference rage quitting this time around.

Come back next week for more racing everyone! Thanks for playing!

Here are the last two parts from the 12/4 tournament last week:

I'm going to review this week's footage, but I may not post much of anything as this wasn't a good week for me this week.  I got to looking online and apparently Pro Controllers are more susceptible to wireless interference that other compatible Wii U controllers.  The Pro Controller had a slight input lag for me this week in online play.  In offline play, the controller is just fine.

Sounds fishy to me. I've been using the Pro Controller since MK 8 came out (been using it for other stuff for months, basically since I got one it's all I use). Last night both my wife and I were using Pro Controllers, and we have loads of wireless devices throwing stuff around the house. You sure it wasn't just the online play part, given how shaky your internet can be (and the fact that you say it works OK in offline play)?

Actually, come to think of it I bet I know what the real problem is. You were blinded by my awesome Princess Peach costume. I'll try not to wear it again, since it's clearly not fair to the other racers. ;)

Not to sound like an asshole, but...

I used a Pro Controller last night when we were all racing for the first time and it worked out perfectly fine for me.

I personally really doubt the Pro Controller has an issue like that.

Yeah, I wasn't last! I probably should've stuck around for a couple more races, though, to get enough points to pull ahead of Yabo. She and i were neck and neck in points most of the night.
