Question About CS's Future IPB4 Upgrade

chozo sanctuary forum upgrades invision power board

Best Answer Admin Prime, 01 February 2016 - 09:37 AM

For the time being it is literally impossible for us to update, as GoDaddy is massively behind on PHP support. Since I can't even do test installs of recent versions of IPB4.x, I likely won't be able to even begin work on updating CS until November, shortly after I plan to transfer us to 1&1. I've read that Invision will be ceasing all IPB3 support in favor of focusing on IPB4 support by year's end  Will this affect CS in any way like having to accelerate the future IPB4 update to the main forums here?  Or will this matter change nothing?  I only ask because I do know we were waiting for some IPB4 matters to get resolved first before we could update to IPB4 from IPB3.

But would CS be kill if the forum didn't get transfarred to IPB4 by the end of the year, or is IPB3 still going to run in 2017?

The software will work forever, we just won't be getting security patches and bug fixes.

I'm bumping this thread because of a coming change to Firefox that will start in Firefox 50 (when it leaves beta in several weeks):

https://support.mozi...ource=inproduct

All pages that have inputs for private data (like logins and passwords) will be flagged as insecure starting with Firefox 50 (I don't know when the other browsers like Chrome will do this).  The only option to avoid having CS flagged is if it migrates to a https connection one day.

Mozilla has a page for web developers looking to not get their sites flagged as insecure:  https://developer.mo...ecure_passwords

My hope has been for https once we get switched to our new host, which should happen in the next few weeks.
