The pre-release times are over, now it's time to talk post-release! Just keep it as spoiler-free as possible.

As for me, I've put a few hours into the game and am liking it a lot. Just opened up the 3rd area. It's fun to see all the creatures rendered in a modern way, after having just played the original in the last week. It feels so much more lush and alive than Metroid II (as you would expect), and far less confusing. Not even just because of the map, but because everything doesn't look the same everywhere. And the music is much better (although Metroid II had a couple of good tracks on it). Much more Prime-esque, both in music and sound effects that other handheld Metroids. I recommend headphones!

Would this have been amazing on Switch? Sure. But on 3DS, it still looks amazing. One of the few games these days that I make sure that the 3D is on for all the time, since the backgrounds are like little living dioramas that are really cool in 3D. I almost wish I had gotten that Samus New 3DS XL, but I'm too pragmatic to buy a new one when my current one works fine.

My new amiibo won't be here until Tuesday, but I scanned my two Smash ones to get my free energy reserve tank and free missile reserve tank.

Haven't opened my CD yet, but that'll come soon enough. Pity it's not the OST for the actual game, I'll still have to hunt that down.

After all this time and you still don't have a 3DS?

Nope. I game like a few hours a week now, so I really don't have the time/drive/money to get another console I won't use.

Sure, but has this been the case ever since the 3DS launched 6 years ago? There are tons of great games on 3DS.

Pretty much, yeah.

Wait, is the 3DS really six years old? Holy shit.

But yeah. 2011 would be when I graduated college and hit the 40/hour week work week. My time spent playing video games has only gone down from then.

I gotta say, I'm surprised at how reliant this game is on bomb-jumping. Or maybe I'm just doing things wrong, but there's been multiple times where you have to have multi-bomb-jumps to get up somewhere. I just got the high-jump boots (I assume that's not a spoiler, since they're in every Metroid game), so maybe it'll be less of a thing, but even within the first hour of playing I had to bomb-jump up to something in order to progress.

Also like the checkpoint system, since one of the checkpoints is battling a Metroid. In the original, it was such a pain to have to re-trek from the last save point when you died.

On that same thread, man do the beasties in here drop health and missiles a lot more. Farming was a major pain in Metroid II, but here there's so many things to shoot, and they all drop a lot of recovery. I suppose when I have more than 3 energy tanks it won't be as easy to top off from empty, but I appreciate the help it gives. :)
