Muh dickkkkkkkkkk~

Saw them live this year. Actually met the band a few years ago when that album dropped. Have it signed and everything!

Good stuff. They had too much stage shit and blew a transformer though, so I only got half their set. :(

#16529559 Discussion: Loot Boxes in Games

Posted by CONKERSBADFURDAY on 12 November 2017 - 06:32 PM

I am completely fine with loot boxes in F2P games as long as they don't create pay-to-win scenarios. Devs have to make money, and games are expensive.

I am mostly fine with loot boxes in P2P games, but things get iffy. I get that video games are expensive to make, that dev teams are huge, and that game prices are as cheap as they have ever been and haven't gone up in conjecture with inflation. That money has to be offset somewhere, and if it's bullshit cosmetics I won't bother with, then fine.

But I also think it's slimy as hell at times. Games come with massive season passes, complete with DLC, skin packs, in-game currency, and a thousand other things. And then they add loot boxes on top of that. And then they do special events that last a few weeks with new loot, and you have to buy a ton of boxes in hopes of getting that loot. That's shitty.

Because here's the thing with multiplayer games: How you look is fucking important. You might not think it is, but it is. One of the reasons you're playing is to make yourself stand out from the rest, and devs know this. So they go, "hey throw us some money and maybe you'll be even cooler than your buds!" So you do. Or with like Destiny 2 where that ingram stuff to make you look cool comes in packs of three while armor comes in packs of four. That's fucking dirty. It's also a missing functionality from Destiny where you could reuse those things.

That's shitty.

Or in Shadow of War or whatever it is, wehre you're paying for in-game items that you'd normally unlock by playing. Now you just buy them to save time, but what does that say about the gameplay? What does that say about game balance? Grinding sucks. Add grinding, add a way to skip grinding via money, and profit off of poorly designing a game on purpose.

In some cases I really do get it though. Halo 5 has free updates for basically life, but there are loot box packs you can buy. I'd rather get free maps and stuff and offset it that way. That's cool. It makes sense. But a lot of these other games are doing this so you can pay and pay and pay and pay. That's a bit gross.

I'm honestly surprised at how well it's getting reviewed, but I also never played the first one. If it's more of the same and people liked the first one, then I guess good on them. I wouldn't have liked the first one.

I jumped into this after putting 50 or so hours into Lawbreakers which is a high-octane arena shooter, so this was a HUGE slowdown. But even then, for a game about killing Nazis, I wanted more ... explosions.

Finally finished Dark Souls 3! I am free D:

No it's not a good thing to ship products that are ostensibly broken until the publisher says "okay now you can play them." It's just one more piece of stupid nonsense the industry is doing because it feels like it needs all of the control and all of the money.

I hate how normalized day one patches are. Fuck, back in the day you bought a game and it worked. It didn't need to be fixed because production got that crammed or because loot boxes needed updating or server bullshit. It just worked. You bought a thing and that was that. No four hours waiting for a patch to download because EVERYONE ELSE is also downloading it.

Will probably pick this up just to kill some Nazis. Also I haven't purchased a game this year since Lawbreakers.

I'm a bad gamer.

Right now I'm just deleting all new accounts that were created over the last three days. None look like they have normal usernames, and their time zones are all from the same place.

I've blocked the few I've seen from posting, but I still don't know how to really work the ACP stuff.

Certainly can't change the question to get in.

Deleting the accounts I've seen reported. Man we got a lot of new people over the last two days. I imagine all of them are spambots. It's funny though, because they fill out their Nintendo ID #s and a few other bits and pieces to look real. I honestly don't want to junk anyone unless I know it's a spambot though, so there might be some more spam posts before they're all gone.

I am working on it though.

IDW also do My Little Pony, G.I. Joe, and a bunch of other Habsroish properties. You know the stuff. At one point they were doing a comic called Animal Noir that was pretty cool, but I haven't seen an issue in months. I'm guessing low sales fucked that one over.

Granted, it was R-rated talking animals published by IDW. Not surprised no one realized it existed.

For $80 Nintendo can eat a bag of dicks. I can find and play probably all of those games in my browser for free.

Since I last posted I've seen Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Alien Covenant. All three are pretty flawed in one way or another, with Alien: Covenant being downright dreadful.

I can't remember what I didn't like about Logan because it's so fucking forgettable, Guardians had a weak villain and no real weight to any of its character arcs, and Alien: Covenant was just bad in pretty much every way it could be as far as story goes. At least it looked pretty I guess.

Been a bad year for movies.

So I've been trying off and on to learn how to death metal scream. Here's my almost upteenth attempt at it. No real processing done other some EQ and a bit of compression.
